Epidemiology of basal cell carcinomas in AMUREL region, Santa Catarina, between 2009 and 2017

Fundamentals: Basal cell carcinoma is the most frequent skin neoplasm in Brazil, with increased incidence in the last decades. There are few studies in the southern region of Santa Catarina about the epidemiological profile of this tumor. Objectives: To establish the epidemiological profile of basal cell carcinoma in the AMUREL region (Santa Catarina). Methods: Observational cross-sectional study. Positive anatomic pathology reports were analyzed for BCC in a laboratory in Tubarão (SC). The variables collected were: year of diagnosis, age, gender, home town, lesion site, histological subtype, lesion diameter and commitment of margins. Results: 4,125 reports with diagnosis of BCC were identified in AMUREL region, predominantly in men, with a higher frequency in the 61-80 age group. The most affected sites were cephalic and cervical regions. The nodular subtype was the most found. The incidence rate for BCC in 2009 was 93,95 and in 2017, 161.86/100.000 people, resulting in an increase of 72%. Conclusion: Between 2009 and 2017, 4,125 people with BCC were diagnosed in the AMUREL region, with a significant increase in the incidence. In both sexes, the most affected sites were the cephalic and cervical regions. The sclerodermiform subtype was the most aggressive concerning commitment of margins. The prevalence of compromised margins after resection was 29%, with the most found diameter being ≤ 2 cm.Fundamentos: O CBC é a neoplasia de pele mais frequente no Brasil, com aumento de incidência nas últimas décadas. São escassos os estudos da Região Sul de Santa Catarina sobre o perfil epidemiológico deste tumor. Objetivos: Estabelecer dados epidemiológicos do CBC na região de Associação de Municípios da Região de Laguna / SC (AMUREL). Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional com delineamento transversal com análise de laudos anatomopatológicos positivos para o CBC entre 2009 e 2017 em um laboratório de Tubarão (SC) e as variáveis coletadas foram: ano do diagnóstico, idade, sexo, cidade de origem, local da lesão, subtipo histológico, diâmetro da lesão e comprometimento de margem. Resultados: Foram identificados 4.125 laudos com diagnóstico de carcinoma basocelular na região da AMUREL com predomínio em homens, maior frequência na faixa etária entre 61 e 80 anos e localizado principalmente na região cefálica e cervical, sendo o subtipo nodular o mais prevalente. Foi encontrado coeficiente de incidência para CBC de 93,95 em 2009 e 161,86/100.000 habitantes para 2017, acarretando aumento de 72%. Conclusão: Entre 2009 e 2017, foram diagnosticadas 4.125 pessoas com CBC na região da AMUREL, tendo um aumento de incidência de 72% do ano de 2009 em comparação á 2017. Em ambos os sexos o subtipo esclerodermiforme foi o que apresentou maior frequência em relação ao comprometimento de margens. Houve prevalência de margens comprometidas após ressecção em 29% das lesões, tendo o diâmetro ≤ 2cm o mais encontrado
