Benefits of yoga during the gestational period

PURPOSE: to investigate the effects of yoga practice on quality of life, pelvic loin pain and expectation regarding the delivery of pregnant women. METHOD: experimental type research performed with the application of a 12-week yoga program. Sample with 14 pregnant women randomized into two groups: Control Group (GC) (n = 7) and Yoga Group (GY) (n = 7). The instruments for data collection were the SF-36 quality of life questionnaire, the pain scale (EVA), and an open question about the expectation regarding delivery. RESULTS: there were significant improvements in the GY group compared to the CG in the post intervention on quality of life in the areas of mental health, vitality and functional capacity. When compared to pre and post GY intervention, there was a significant improvement in the areas of mental health, vitality and general health. There were no significant improvements in pain. Regarding the question about the expectation regarding delivery, the pregnant women in the GY group demonstrated an increase in confidence and greater knowledge about the procedures associated with childbirth. CONCLUSION: The intervention with yoga was effective in improving mental health, vitality, general health and functional capacity, which suggests an improvement in the quality of life, as well as an improvement in the expectation of pregnant women aboutOBJETIVO: investigar os efeitos da prática do yoga na qualidade de vida, na dor lombo pélvica e na expectativa em relação ao parto de gestantes. MÉTODO: pesquisa do tipo experimental realizada com a aplicação de um programa de yoga de 12 semanas. Amostra com 14 gestantes randomizadas em dois grupos: Grupo Controle (GC) (n=7) e Grupo Yoga (GY) (n=7). Os instrumentos para coleta de dados foram o questionário de qualidade de vida SF-36, a escala de dor (EVA) e uma pergunta aberta sobre a expectativa em relação ao parto. RESULTADOS: houve melhoras significativas no grupo GY em comparação ao GC no pós intervenção na qualidade de vida nos domínios saúde mental, vitalidade e capacidade funcional. Quando comparado o GY pré e pós intervenção houve melhora significativa nos domínios saúde mental, vitalidade e estado geral da saúde. Não houve melhoras significativas na dor. Quanto à pergunta sobre a expectativa em relação ao parto, as gestantes do grupo GY demonstraram aumento da confiança e maior conhecimento sobre os procedimentos associados ao parto. CONCLUSÃO: A intervenção com yoga foi eficaz na melhora da saúde mental, vitalidade, estado geral da saúde e capacidade funcional, o que sugere melhora da qualidade de vida, além da melhora da expectativa da gestante sobre o parto
