FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH URINARY INCONTINENCE IN WOMEN TREATED AT THE MUNICIPAL POLYCLINIC OF PALHOÇA

Objectives: To evaluate the factors associated with urinary incontinence in women treated at the Municipal Polyclinic of Palhoça. Methods: A case-control study about patients over 18 years attended at the Municipal Polyclinic of Palhoça from January to December 2016, with 60 cases (incontinent women) and 120 controls, age-matched. Sociodemographic, lifestyle, clinical, gynecological and obstetric variables were tabulated in the Windows Excel software and then analyzed by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) program. The risk was measured by the Odds Ratio (OR), presenting the p-value with a significance level of 5% (p≤0,05) and the Confidence Interval (95% CI) for the OR. Results: Among the factors evaluated, physical inactivity (OR=5,47; CI95% 2,60-12,33; P>0,001), obesity (OR=2,39; CI95% 1,02-5,60; p=0,045), constipation (OR=4,33; CI95% 2,07-9,06; p<0,001), hypertention (OR=1,90; CI95% 1,01-3,55; p=0,056), the use of benzodiazepines (OR=2,48; CI95%1,02-6,00; p=0,057) and antidepressants (OR=2,82; CI95% 1,45-5,48; p=0,003), previous history of gynecological surgery (OR=5,82; CI95% 2,96-11,45; p<0,001) and number of sexual partners (p=0,016) were associated with UI. Conclusion: UI is associated with several risk factors and has a negative impact on women's quality of life. The knowledge of these factors by health professionals is fundamental so they can be able to identify UI early and to treat it adequately.Objetivos: Avaliar os fatores associados à incontinência urinária em mulheres atendidas na Policlínica Municipal de Palhoça.
