Recent criticism of political and artistic avant-garde moving image work (that I shall refer to here broadly as “radical film”) has often focused on two places of presentation: the black box (cinema) versus the white cube (gallery). This talk will address the numerous third (or grey) spaces that exist for the contemporary exhibition of radical film, by taking a local perspective looking at Nottingham. Those wishing to show radical films outside the context of cinemas or galleries can reach new audiences who might not readily attend such screenings elsewhere.
