Siedemnastowieczne rozmyślania panien benedyktynek łacińskich we Lwowie

The internal life and the ways of fashioning young nuns by the Benedictine nuns of the so called Chełmińska Congregation, to which the nunnery in Lwów belonged, was characterised by the use of methodised meditations, frequently in the Ignatian style. Under the direction of the assigned master nun, at the time designated by the daily schedule and the Rule, novices, professed nuns and those nuns whose zeal in God’s had weakened wrote down their meditations which were then read in public, evaluated and corrected. Meditations were practised in order to in order to strive against imperfections and to acquire the virtue which was then practically improved. The texts by the Lwów Benedictine nuns are kept in the Jagiellonian Library in Cracow. They are first of all meditations for Sundays, holidays or the Lent, meditations on the Saints and on the ceremonies of the monastic profession and consecration. They constitute an interesting contribution to our knowledge about the style of the piety of the epoch and about the milieu of a contemplative nunnery which was an important part of the Old Polish manuscriptal cultur
