In high mountain, glacial and periglacial processes have a strong control on slope morphodynamics. This article describes these geomorphic processes, and the associated hazards. In the glacial areas, these hazards result from the formation of glacial lakes and glacial water pockets, from ice avalanching and glacier collapses, from the evolution of lateral moraines, and from post-glacial slope decompression. In the periglacial belt, hazards are due to the destabilization of steep rockwalls and sediments. Because of they are close to melting conditions, glaciers and alpine permafrost are likely to react to the global warming.
