Similary to the case of the solid solution FeTiO₃-αFe₂O₃, the series NiTiO₃-αFe₂O₃ manifests a crystallographic transition R[-3]—R[-3]c which depends strongly on the quench temperature. Presentation of a magnetic model which covers whole solid solution range of ilmenite-hematite. The resulting magnetic moment is correlated to the composition and degree of cationic order of the solution. For the series FeTiO₃-αFe₂O₃, the agreement is excellent, between the calculated order ratio obtained from the magnetic measurements of Y. Ishikawa and neutron-diffraction data of G.
