The reflectivity study of infrared active modes of some silicates is reported in each polarization state. Topaz, phenacite, forsterite, zircon, beryl and spodumene have been investigated. The topaz study is presented in details, and the analysis of B[1u], B[2u] and B[3u] spectra by classical dispersion theory is explicited, thus the frequencies, oscillator strengths and damping of each mode are obtained. The observed spectral distributions of the modes are in agreement with expectations from the site method, and this allows us to identify « internal » modes.
