Exsolution according to the diagonal association in a cryptoperthite is described using electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. It consists of continuous zigzag or lozange-shaped lamellae of albite and microcline in coherent relation, the composition plane being irrational and near ([-6]61) to ([-6]31), or ([-6][-6]1) to ([-6][-3]1). Strain at the coherent junction between the two domains accounts for the apparent departure from the albite twin law in microcline. The exsolution is supposed to have arisen from a spinodal decomposition in a monoclinic feldspar.
