Magmatic intrusion of the Salau granodiorite can be dated relative to regional folding by means of geological, stratigraphic and structural criteria ; petrological and geochemical studies give evidence for a multistage intrusion with successive magmas rising from a deep-seated source. Magmatic differentiation conforms to a fractional-crystallization model involving biotite, garnet, plagioclase and zircon as the main minerals. Mineralized skarns are spatially associated with the more differentiated rock-types.
