Kindergarten at the Obilní Trh in Brno

The aim of this bachelor thesis is a design of a kindergarten in Brno, which would be able to accommodate two classes of at most 24 children. The south of the given estate passes into a hillside leading up to the Špilberk castle. The other side of the estate is connected by a gap site to a public park Obilní trh over the Údolní street. The design places a multipurpose building into the gap site, creating a calm courtyard for the kindergarten placement. The singlestorey kindergarten building has a shape of an equilateral L, naturally dividing it’s private part of the estate from the public one and the interior layout into two symmetrical classes with the facilities, that need to be shared, placed in the middle. One of the building’s wings is sunken into the hillside creating natural access to the grassy roof, adding another flat part to kindergarten’s private courtyard, where the children can play. The facade created by densely and regularly distributed colorful vertical ropes with empty geometric figures over the windows, giving the building a playful appearance, which is likable for children
