The specifics of a nurse's work with addicted clients at psychiatric ward

The topic of this bachelor thesis is the specifications of nursing addicted patients at the psychiatric ward. Due to a high number of patients addicted to addictive substances and easy availability of addictive substances it is a very current topic. The aim of this thesis is to map out the specifications of the work done by nurses at the ward of medium-term withdrawal treatment and at the department of detoxification. The theoretical part focuses on the division of psychiatric care in the Czech Republic, on the kinds and descriptions of addictive substances, on mental syndromes happening because of addictive substance use, and on the descriptions of specifications and competence of nurses working at the psychiatric ward. Practical part consists of quantitative research using the method of interviews. The data collection technique used is a semi-structured interview. Three categories and 7 subcategories were created by analyzing the data obtained. The research file consists of 13 nurses working at psychiatric hospitals, at medium-term withdrawal treatment offices and detoxification units where they are in contact with addicted patients. Among specifications nurses also include random detection addictive substance tests, and checking of clients´ personal belongings. Nurses understand the psychatric ward' to be very specific, as a place where each client needs to be treated individually, because each one may manage the regime teatment differently. This bachelor thesis may be used for purposes of education about the process of withdrawal treatment and mitigation of fear in those people who are thinking about treatment, but are afraid to undergo it because of lack of information
