This bachelor thesis deals with the analysis of examples of the process of coping the family with the birth and subsequent care for a child with severe disability. The theoretical part of the thesis analyzes four types of disorders: Down syndrome, microcephaly, vigile comatose and Rett syndrome. First, these disorders are characterized and subsequently their causes, diagnosis, treatment, etc. are listed. The practical part informs about the results of the research using case studies. The strategy of qualitative research was determined, the method used is questioning and the technique of semi-structured interview. The discussion points to the appropriate practice of doctors in communicating a serious diagnosis to parents. The process of coping with a child's disability makes it difficult for parents, has a major impact on the family's lifestyle and educates them to verify the quality of the marital relationship. The involvement of his siblings, the wider family and the contacts with the surrounding society and its help play a significant role in the care of a child with disabilities
