Introduction: Wrongful acuity assignment in triage can impact the emergency department by lengthening patient wait times before seeing a healthcare provider. This can lead to poor patient outcomes. Emergency nurses need high quality education in acuity assignment to prevent mistriage. Methods: In this practice improvement project, emergency nurses (n= 49) participated in simulation scenarios to practice using the emergency severity index triage system. Retrospective chart audits were completed by the project coordinator pre- and post-intervention to evaluate whether mistriage rates improved.
