In the second part of the 19th century — at the beginning of the 20th century, architects having acquired education at the Riga Politechnicum and practising in Latvia facilitated the distribution of new stylistic trends in Lithuania. During this time period, a considerable number of churches were build in Lithuania according to designs by architect K. E. Strandmanis and the building engineer F. von Viganovskis – these churches make an important part of the sacral architecture heritage in Lithuania in the given time period. Their contribution in Latvia is no less outstanding. Also, a number of other architects have worked in Lithuania who had acquired education in the mentioned educational institution in Riga.
