In order to develop an alternative to mineral oils used for lubricating motor saw chains, tribological research on biodegradable lubricating materials (rapeseed oil RO, rapeseed oil methyl esters RME and lard methyl esters LME) was carried out. Pure materials (RO, RME and LME) and their compositions, modified with different treat rates of a chain bar additive, were analyzed, The obtained results were compared with commercial biodegradable oil used for the same purpose. Wear scar reduction was tested in a four-ball tribometer. The greatest effect of an additive was found to have on the lubricating properties of LME, the minimum effect - on RME.
