Heterobasidion. annosum s.s is a necrotrophic fungus, conifer pathogen, Pinus sylvestris being its common host. According to investigation, its genome encodes a large number of small secreted proteins (SSPs) which are involved in its interaction with other fungal species, competitive, neutral or mutualistic interaction. These SSPs were also investigated to be involved in the pathogen’s disease development, promotion and sustainability on conifer trees. In this study, I targeted three necrotrophic SSPs namely, HaSSP4, HaSSP5 and HaSSP8 which might be involved in the interspecific interaction of the pathogen with other fungi.
