Negalia ir lytis: fiziškai neįgalių vyrų vyriškumo samprata

This article focuses on the masculinity of physically disabled men. Using the insights of gender, disability and masculinity studies, it critically approaches both disabled men and gender concepts. The research methods used in the article include the analysis of scholarly literature, semi-structured interviews and participant observation. 12 semi-structured interviews were conducted with the physically disabled men from different Lithuanian towns. The study concludes that most interviewed disabled men define their masculinity traditionally. Only two physically disabled men reject and reformulate most norms of hegemonic masculinity. Furthermore, the physically disabled men attempt to disguise and ‘reduce’ their disability by the means of prostheses, clothing and accessories or simply by lying.
