The link of forest with quality of the life in urban areas

Analysis of the indicators has showed, that the high quality life exists in Birstonas and Alytus city municipality, where air pollution and crime are lowest, wellness and fertility are highest. Poor quality of life is in Panevezys, Klaipeda, Siauliai urban municipalities: in those urban areas the highest level of contamination is found, people are more and more often ill, higher level of crime is observed. The study has found that the forest in municipalities influences quality of the life. Fixed the relationship between forest cover and fertility, with increased forest cover birthrate increases. The relationship between forest cover and mood disorders is very weak. It is believed, that the mood disorders/ chronic depression is more likely influenced by other factors, such as low wages. The strong relationship was found between forest cover and air quality (sulfur dioxide and carbon monoxide), plantation of forest positively influence the air of the urban areas, cleans it, and improves the microclimate, suppressing dust hovering in the air. RDA (ReDundancy analysis) showed, that mood disorders, long-term depression, crime are more related with the average wage. With the increased average wage, crime increases. Forests, particularly unsuited to recreational infrastructure, make more advantage crime situation. The results confirm, that the forest is an important element of the urban area.
