This paper presents an application of a PLC for the control and visualization of a 3D scanning system. The programming of stepper motors, methods for 3D data acquisition and object reconstruction in digital environment are described. This paper also presents typical 3D scanning systems programming problems including triangulation, removal of defects and visualization of the model data. Basic filtering methods for the reduction of visual noise and other flaws are compared.
