Social Participation and Borders of the Theory of Subject Interpellation

Contemporary social theoriesand social philosophy try to develop theconception of social participation in the context ofmodern theories of human being,world understanding and being.It presupposes comparative analyses of social theories of subject and philosophical, anthropological understanding of the essence of human being. For this purpose conceptions of subjectivity of L.Althusser and M. Foucault are analysed in the article. Althusser has developed a theory of interpellation of a subject. The subject is constructed by the process whereby every person officially explains some acts according to the existing order. Various social discourses and ideologies constantly examine subjects, so they develop the sense of responsibility, shame, or pride. Different ideologies do the same: ideologies permanently survey individuals thus supporting social structures, class consciousness, the governing regime, the power or traditional patterns of life. The article maintains that ideological interpellation is a very important process for the simple reproduction of social life and basic institutions. However, subjects of discourses and laws don't have necessary skills and attitudes for the development of society; they fear novelty or originality. On the contrary, M.Foucault's and especialy J.S.Coleman's theories develop first of all the conception of subjectivity as an expression of interests, hopes, needs, and demands of human beings.The article shows that every person could be the subject of different social, economical or erotic relations.
