Health care ethics in neonatology

Vienodas žmonių orumas ir lygios teisės deklaruojami visose demokratinėse valstybėse. Tačiau kai kalbama apie neišnešiotus naujagimius ir ypač su esama negalia, imama svarstyti, ar jų gyvenimas yra vertas gyventi. Šiame darbe bus siekiama pabrėžti labai svarbią elgesio normą: negalima neskirti neišnešiotiems naujagimiams ir neįgaliems naujagimiams gydymo, kuris būtų skirimas išnešiotiems vaikams be negalios, nebent negalia padaro gydymą nenaudingą arba nepakeliamą neįgaliam naujagimiuiThe aim of the article is to specify the important rule of behaviour: one cannot apply the same treatment methods for the premature babies and the disabled ones, as treating the healthy full term babies, unless the character of the disease makes the treatment useless or unbearable for the disabled baby. After having analysed the sources it is possible to state that the attitude towards a newborn baby is essentially different from that to older children, and that fact has its impact on their health care. The situation complicates much more in case the baby is prematurely born. Such babies are attributed to even lower moral category.
