Tabakas – vienas svarbiausių modelinių augalų, naudojamų augalų biotechnologijoje. Šiuo metu šis augalas naudojamas rekombinantinių baltymų, antikūnų ir kitų medžiagų gamyboje, farmacijos ir pramonės srityse. Šio tyrimo tikslas buvo atlikti augalo genetinę transformaciją peptido imituojančio gyvūninį ekstraląstelinį matriksą genu bei optimizuoti kaliaus bei suspensijos auginimo sąlygas. Eksperimentai atlikti 2017–2019 metais, LAMMC sodininkystės ir daržininkystės institute, Babtuose. Atlikta tabako transformacija naudojant Agrobacterium rhizogenes ir Agrobacterium tumefaciens šeimos bakterijas. Atrinktos 5 kaliaus linijos, kuriose transgeninio peptido buvimas patvirtintas PGR.
