Childhood in Judita Vaičiūnaitė’s creative works

Childhood and its experiences in J. Vaičiūnaitė’s works is revealed by different genres: a book of essays “In the Mirror of Childhood”, poetry, books for children. Therefore this problem can be analysed in several ways. Having compared essays and poetry, many similarities can be noticed – the same autobiographical mood, the same scenes, created of everyday family life snatches. For the childhood to be reactivated, time and place is fairly important. The experience of childhood is being concentrated in the house and the room, which is “the only one in the world”, also the time-span of Sunday. Childhood in Vaičiūnaitė’s creative works is being created as some kind of vision of a lost paradise. The creative power of memory, allowing one to recover and relive the past, is especially sharp in the poems about Kaunas. Adolescence, becoming, awakening to the feminine life is most interesting in understanding childhood. This period is named by the age of Juliet. It is being revealed in the analysis of the poem “The garden, which was cut down long ago…” J. Vaičiūnaitė has created her own poetic free world of childhood of dreams and yearning for adventure.
