Renewable energy and the use of biomass in energy production promotes sustainable development and decreases the use of fossil fuels. Biomass, e.g. birch bark can be used in the production of heat and electricity, as well as being used as a biofuel component and novel product for the chemical industry. Efficient utilization of biomass requires a high level of knowledge and the development of new processes to create a new way of thinking.
