Influence of pre-sowing magnetic field stimulation on the yield of common beans (Phaseolus vulgaris L.)

The study was based on a field experiment carried out between the years 2015-2017 in Zyznów, south-eastern Poland (50°38′ N 21°23′ E). The experiment was performed in randomized blocks in three repetitions. The experimental factors were the exposure of magnetic field seed stimulation: I) 15 seconds; II) 30 seconds and III) the control object, without stimulation. The object of the study was common bean, cv. 'Zlota Saxa`. Prior to the experiment, mineral fertilizers were applied phosphorus-potassium. Agricultural practices and plant protection were carried out in accordance with good agricultural practice. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of pre-sowing magnetic field stimulation of bean seeds on the pod yield and its structure. Magnetic field of induction 45 mT for 15 and 30 seconds caused an increase in the pod yield, improvement of its structure, length of pods; wherein, shorter stimulation time proved advantageous for both the pod yield and its dry weight. On the first harvest date, the highest yield of pods was obtained, whereas, in the second one the most favourable structure. Magnetic field can be used to a great extent in horticulture and agriculture to improve seeds. This creates new opportunities for innovative, environmentally friendly activities in the agriculture production. The harvest dates of pods modified both their height and structure of yield of pods and length of pods. The first harvest date was characterized by the highest yield, while the second one − by the most advantageous structure.
