Conceptualising pain outside the normalising moral perspective is difficult, because of its culturised forms and instrumental use in society. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the concept of pain by M. de Sade and L. von Sacher-Masoch in a dialectical relationship with pleasure, examining the transition between them and how in two different schemes the surplus value of pain is created. The goal of this thesis is to understand how encultured forms of pain are thought philosophically and how they manifest themselves through different practices in relation to normalising laws and moral limitations.
