Antiviral assessment of some selected medicinal plants

This studies focuses on selected pathogenic virus, and antiviral natural compounds from medical plants. The lack of effective therapies and vaccines for several viral infections, and the rapid emergence of new drug-resistant viruses have urged a growing need for developing new and effective chemotherapeutic agents to treat viral diseases. recent advances in the understanding of both the cellular and molecular mechanisms of virus replication have provided the basis for novel therapeutic strategies. Several medicinal plants have been isolated for screening and identifying antiviral activity. Total amount of phenolic compounds, flavonoids and radical scavenging activity were determined spectrophotometriucally. Composition of the phenolic compounds in the extracts was analyzed chromatographically (HPLC and GC-MS). For evaluation of cytotoxicity effect and potential antiviral activity of medicinal and aromatic plants extracts using Vero cells. The Beaudette strain of Avian infectious bronchitis virus was used for antiviral properties testing. Antiviral effect shown Origanum vulgare L.
