Lietuvos teatro kritikos tendencijos (1990–1997)

The author of this work investigates Lithuanian theatre critique tendencies and development during 1990-1997. Research is based on a relation between theatre critique and the theatre and on a role of critique in social – cultural life during the fixed period. The author discloses an influence from Soviet ideology and reviews context of the past. Theatre critique in 1990-1997 is tended to be descriptive taking a big attention to an explanation of performance story and subject urgency. The work discusses issues in theatre critique such as his interrelation between the audience and the theatre. It is revealed a tendency of critique to help for spectators in understanding of the theatre situation and to avoid an investigation of theoretical problems. Three generations of theatre critics are separated and discussed features of each group. There are analyzed their different attitudes to the contemporary theatre conceptions grown out of different aesthetic sources. All critics’ groups agree on an estimation of psychological or literary theatre based on the drama and critics’ opinions branch out estimating the non-dramatical theatre where textuality and visuality have got an equal importance. There are defined four characters of theatre critique (historical – comparative, impressionistic, informative and analytical – philosophical). The most popular method in critique is based on an analysis of the drama as well as its stage interpretation. In the presence of theatre changes, critics are not always able to react effectively to innovations in the art and a confusion of using terms opens in their compositions. The author of the work makes a conclusion that Lithuanian theatre critique during 1990-1997 looks variegated in the sight of critique forms, style and different values of estimation
