The heavy metals pollution of soils is considered as one of the most serious problems worldwide because these elements are toxic, not biodegradable and can be incorporated into the food chain. Earthworms are one of the first receptors affected by the contamination of soil. The effects of lead and cadmium on the growth, development and survival of juvenile and mature adult earthworm Eisenia fetida were evaluated.
