The estuarine environments are widely studied over the past decades due to its social, environmental and economic importance. For example, the strategies to contain oil spill are based on hydrodynamic modeling research. The application of numerical models to predict and analyze circulation patterns inside coastal water bodies is growing in the country. In northern Brazil the use of those models is still experimental.
