Hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia are considered to be a rare cause of acute pancreatitis. The relationship between hyperparathyroidism and pancreatic inflammatory disease remains controversial, but it may be related to the translation of inactive trypsinogen to active one by hypercalcemia. We present a case of acute pancreatitis with persistently elevated serum calcium level and resistant to medical treatment. Parathyroid adenoma was diagnosed as the cause of hyperparathyroidism Following surgical resection of parathyroid adenoma, the function of pancreas and serum calcium levels returned to normal.
