The aim of this paper is to provide an overview on the question of the authenticity of Prometheus Vinctus in the light of the critical developments in the last decades (especially R. Bees, B. Marzullo, E. Lefèvre, M.L. West). Among other aspects, I have also examined several allusions in tragedies and comedies from the second half of the fifth century onwards, regarding some of the central themes of the play, such as the tyranny of Zeus or the progress account of the second episode, in part. in Sophocles' Women of Colchis (frr. 337, 338, 340, 341, 345 R.), Euripides' Suppliants (vv. 201-15), Aristophanes' Plutos (vv. 87-207), Moschion's Pheraioi (fr. 6 Sn.-K.).
