AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ WRITING INTEREST

Language is an important tool to communicate. English is one of the languages that used as a tool to communicate among people around the world. In English, writing is one of the skills used to express someone’s feelings and ideas through words in written form. In writing, there are some students might like and not like writing. In learning writing, interest is needed by the students. Interest is an intrinsic motivation that wants to know and understand deeply about something. This research covers the differences between male and female students’ interest in writing. The aim of this research is to find out the differences between male and female students’ interest in writing. This research used quantitative descriptive research design. It analyzes the differences in female students’ interest and male students’ interest in writing especially in 4th semester students of English Language Education Department. The population of this research is 234 students. To get the sample, it used Quota sampling technique to get the data. This research has 50 participants consisting of 25 female and 25 male students. This research uses questionnaire as an instrument. The research revealed that female students’ interest in writing is higher than male students. It was proved by the average score of female students that is 98.36 and male average score that is 75.72. It concluded that female students have high interest in writing activities
