UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIBAKTERI FRAKSI n-HEKSANA UMBI Eleutherine palmifolia (L.) Merr PADA BAKTERI Shigella dysenteriae DENGAN METODE DIFUSI CAKRAM

Background : One of the causes of severe bacillary dysentery is usually caused by bacteria Shigella dysenteriae which is a Gram negative bacterium. Same strain of Shigella dysentriae has been resistance to various antibiotics so it was necessary development of new bacteria which can against the infection. Objective : The aim of the study is to find out secondary metabolites which founded on the n-Hexane fraction of Eleutherine palmifolia and obtained the diameter inhibition zone of Eleutherine palmifolia n-Hexane fraction to Shigella dysenteriae growths. Method : This research uses disc diffusion methods. Eleutherine palmifolia tuber n-Hexane fraction with maceration level methods, then secondary metabolites identified with KLT methods and doing a bacterial activity testing with disc diffusion methods. The concentration used was 80 mg/ml, 120 mg/ml, and 160 mg/ml. The negative control is tween 80 10%, while positive control was Ciprofloxacin 5 μg/disc. Solution test and control test putt on the Mueller Hinton Agar media that has been spread bacteria suspension then incubated on 37ᵒC for 24 hours. Result and Conclusion : Results Identification of secondary metabolites by the KLT method showed positive results on alkaloids, flavonoids, and terpenoids. The results of the antibacterial activity with a concentration of 80 mg/ml, 120 mg/ml, 160 mg/ml provide a inhibitory 12,55 mm; 14,62 mm; and 14,97 mm. So it can be concluded that the n-Hexane fraction of tuber Eleutherine palmifolia has biological activity as an antibacterial in Shigella dysenteriae
