This 1970 volume contains, on pages 45-52, a description of the research of this phase of the study. It describes the history of the project, its sponsorship by the U.S. Office of Education, lists members of the Advisory Committee, and discusses the sampling method. A list of papers constituting the final report and information on how to obtain copies are given on pages 56-61.
