Background: the presence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and acute heart failure (AHF) is associated to a significantly increased risk of death, especially in elderly patients. Patients and Methods: we retrospectively enrolled all the consecutive patients admitted for AF in our subintensive medicine department in the period 2002- 2007.
