School sense of community as a predictor of well-being among students: A longitudinal study

School sense of community has been associated with students’ well-being. However, this finding is based on cross-sectional studies and longitudinal studies are required to confirm this association. We hypothesized that school sense of community is longitudinally associated with students’ well-being. We recruited 106 Italian students attending a public high school. We measured school sense of community and students’ well-being at the beginning of the school year (Time 1) and students’ well-being at the end of the school year (Time 2). Results from Bayesian linear regression analysis revealed that school sense of community at Time 1 significantly predicts students’ well-being at Time 2. In addition, school sense of community at Time 1 was a statistically significant predictor of students’ well-being at Time 2, even after controlling for students’ well-being at Time 1, age, and gender.
