To assess the patient's capability of performing a correct skin-check examination we investigated the association of melanoma detection pattern with Breslow thickness, by melanoma body area. In this prospective observational study, patients with primary cutaneous melanoma who presented at the Department of Dermatology at the University of Florence between January 2000 and November 2011 were interviewed as part of their clinical data recording procedure at the time of their final histopathological diagnoses of melanoma.
