This chapter explores the evolution of Sino-Japanese relations in the 6 Xi-Abe era, considering three different areas: security and defence, economic regionalism, and ‘ history issues. ’ Bilateral relations, despite high levels of eco- nomic interdependence, remain constrained by an ongoing security dilemma and by the lack of reconciliation over ‘ history issues. ’ Moreover, China and Japan are starting to diverge also on how to promote institutionalization in the realm of economic governance
