none1noSintesi sulle ricerche a Burnum“The Burnum Project” is an international joint research project between the Department of Archaeology of Bologna University, the Civic Archaeological Museum of Drniš and the University of Zadar, with the collaboration of many other European researchers and the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Italian Republic. The principal aims of the project are the knowledge and preservation of the Roman settlement of Burnum, an archaeological site in the Krka National Park (Croatia). From the beginning of the Burnum Project, in 2005, a great importance has been given to non-intrusive methodologies for archaeology (remote sensing). The research is focused on different scales of analysis. On a micro-scale, it regards the main preserved evidence of the castrum/municipium, as the remains of the forensic basilica (the arches) built over the principia of the castrum. On a large scale, it concerns the study of the whole settlement and his environment. Different topographical and geophysical techniques have been applied to the site (aerial photography, magnetometry, electrical resistivity studies and ground penetrating radar), making the area an interesting case history of a multidisciplinary approach applied to archaeology. On the basis of the topographical and geophysical survey results, several archaeological investigations of sample areas have been realized, in order to define function and chronology of some anomalies recognized as buried structures or buildings, resolve archaeological issues related to the principal phases of the settlement, and verify the instrumental responses of the different systems of non-intrusive analysis. The excavations allow us to better understand the geophysical maps and to extend the interpretation proposed for the areas verified by archaeological excavation to other large parts of the site, just covered with the geophysics.mixedGiorgi, EnricoGiorgi, Enric
