BACKGROUND. Many analyses demonstrate that rising unemployment rates generate a feeling of uncertainty that can influence fertility behaviour, inducing a short-term reduction in fertility. The impact of the recent economic crisis in Italy is controversial in the current demographic literature. OBJECTIVE.
