This article is part of a wider work on the transforations of the institute and concept of the border in the present. Starting from critical debates surrounding the origin and functions of cartography we argue that since the inception of the modern age borders have played a key role in a process of "fabrication" of the world. The relation between the origins of cartography and the so-called "primitive accumulation" of capital is also discussed in the article
