Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a complex multifactorial syndrome where genetic predisposition interacts with environmental factors. Currently, AD pharmacotherapy relies on acethylcholinesterase inhibitors (AChEIs), valuable in restoring the cholinergic dysfunction, and memantine, a non competitive NMDA receptor antagonist that limits glutamate excitotoxicity.
