In this study 344 fish from 3 different freshwater environments, located in north-western Italy, were subjected to cultural exams for atypical Mycobacteria. Nine strains of Mycobacteria were isolated from fish coming from River Po Basin, Como and Maggiore Lake. The most frequent species were Mycobacterium chelonae and M. gordonae
