The interaction between shocks and acceleration waves in a perfect gas is studied following the general theory by Boillat and Ruggeri (Proc. Roy. Soc. Edinburgh 83A, 17, 1979). Special attention is devoted to the analysis of the effects of varying the shock strength on the jump of the shock acceleration and on the amplitudes of the reflected/transmitted waves. Numerical calculations are in perfect agreement with theoretical results.
