LDPE films have been coated with single or bi-layer hybrid coatings formed through sol-gel reactions in order to improve their thermo-oxidative resistance. Different chemical compositions of the coating have been investigated which differ either in the amount of the inorganic phase (silica deriving from tetraethoxysilane) or in the organic component (either alkoxysilane functionalized polyethylene-polyethylenglycol diblock copolymers or polyvinyl alcohol).
