Add to ORKGNowadays considerable efforts are being addressed to the study of new catalytic routes for the transformation of glycerol into chemicals. One possible reaction is the dehydration of glycerol into acrolein, carried out in the gas phase, with solid acid catalysts. In the present work we report about the use of Keggin-type polyoxometalate and of sulphated zirconia catalysts for the transformation of glycerol into acrolein, with the aim of identifying factors that limit the selectivity to the desired compound. The main problem in the control of selectivity was found to be the relevant formation of heavy condensation by-products, and the contribution of homogeneous reactions
