HYPOTHESIS: The role of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in determining the prognosis after hepatectomy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with cirrhosis is controversial. DESIGN: Retrospective study based on multicenter prospectively updated databases. SETTING: Two tertiary referral centers specializing in hepatobiliary surgery.
