This study originated from the perception that, in such a crucial stage of both international negotiations and EU policies, the safeguarding of one of the most important assets of regional agriculture must reinforced, by connecting the links of designation of origin to the characteristics of ecosystem and the economic and social fabric. This work studied the actions that have been carried out in the wine sector of Emilia-Romagna to achieve environmental sustainability. For this purpose I used the available data on voluntary certification, the variety and extent of autochthonous vines, as well as the data concerning organic farms and enterprises
